Brian Kershisnik

The Nativity
, 2006
oil on canvas
88" x 204"

This is a painting I have seen in person. The picture you see here does not even compare. It is one of those paintings I wish had been my idea. It's big and beautiful and special. I was so excited to see it on his website so I could share it with you. He exhibits work regularly in Park City and Salt Lake City. Try to see his work in person some time if you are in the area.

In addition to seeing The Nativity at the BYU MOA, I saw an exhibit of Brian Kershisnik's work at the UMFA while I was attending school there. Well actually I didn't just go see it, I examined and admired it over and over again. I really felt connected to the things he paints about and the techniques that were similar to what I was trying to accomplish in my artwork. One of my teachers told me specifically to go see his exhibit as many times as possible. It was a such pleasure! When he came to paint LIVE in the museum and talk to visitors, I was so there. I even have a hard bound book of his work with great pictures and stories about his studio. When I start collecting art, I would be thrilled (like so many others) to own one of his paintings.

Visit his website here. I'm sure more examples of his work will find it's way to the Art I Like blog.
