I think of Gaugin as the "artist who paints a lot of islanders and uses a lot of orange." But I'm not well acquainted with any of his besides a few that we saw at a show in the Bellagio in (!!!) Vegas, of all places. Are these PILGRIMS? Surely not. Not Gaugin! I guess I had him all wrong.
I believe they are Dutch... Actually Gaugin was much admired by the other famous painters of his time. I can't remember which one bought this painting... This was before he went to Tahiti, I think.
