Gustav Klimt

Gustav Klimt's Adele Bloch Bauer-I

Here is another pricey painting. It just sold for
$135 million. Wow. I doubt the selling price had much to do with the painting itself but rather the history and reputation of the painter himself. I love gold paint and I love playing between flat and deep spaces. This painting combines both of those things. And then, I just love her rosy cheeks.

gorgeous painting. I might be tempted to buy a klimt if I had that kind of money...

but then of course you'd need the right kind of house to put it in :)

I guess we poor people will have to settle on the posters. But look how much we will save! I hope you don't mind Kelly- I have been collecting a list of interesting art blogs to read and added yours.

Gorgeous painting -- Klimt is wonderful. My favorite is Hope II, and I was thrilled to walk into a room in the MoMA and wallah! There it was, in all its color-soaked glory! I didn't realize Klimt was under the umbrella of modern art -- thought he was a bit too representational.

Sadly the poster of Hope II was all sold out in the bookstore. We may pretend to like pure abstractions and stare ponderously at a Pollock, but when it comes to decorating our walls, most of us want pretty ladies :)

Funny though, pretty much everything in this painting is abstract except her skin.
